As Dalcour Maclaren’s workforce continues to grow, we are taking great care to ensure that the company has the internal corporate structure to support that. Amongst our corporate services, our People team has gone from strength to strength, growing from a team of 2 to 5 in the last 6 months.

Most recently we have welcomed our new Head of People, Melanie Osborne, to the team, albeit under some rather different circumstances to what we would have expected, given the remote working (which Mel has already managed to formalise and implement under our brand new Flexible Working Policy!) Here’s what Mel had to say about her first few weeks with DM:

What have the first few weeks been like for you?

First impressions are so important and I must say, I’ve been impressed! Although the world around us is different at the moment, DM’s response to this has been so refreshing. Some things are obviously a little unorthodox, but this isn’t a negative thing. Being part of a business that embraces ‘different’ is so exciting. The DM culture has shone through and has made the last few weeks interesting, challenging and inspiring!

What are you here to do?

I’m here to design, develop, lead and implement strategic people strategies, aligning them to DM’s vision and values. My role requires me to be an Executive Team Business Partner, focusing on culture, employee engagement and change. My intention is to put a bit of va-va-voom into things, supporting business growth, whilst continuing to make DM the best place to work!

How did you find joining DM whilst we’ve all been working from home?

Many would be apprehensive about joining a new Company during lockdown, but this really wasn’t the case for me. Before joining, DM kept me well informed so I knew exactly what to expect. With support from the Company, everyone has been able to embrace the challenges of remote working and the wonders of technology made the onboarding process so seamless. Communication is on point and I have been able to learn, interact and start to make changes, all from the comfort of my own home.

What’s your favourite thing about DM so far?

Do I have to pick one? The people, the culture, the ability to innovate, the transparent and progressive nature…DM is really a place where people can develop long and fulfilling careers. As a people person, all of these things are so important to me and I’m delighted to be part of the team (and in time, part of the furniture!).

We are really looking forward to the support and innovation that Mel will bring to the team and the wider company, as we mark another exciting step in the growth of the business.
