A huge part of life at Dalcour Maclaren is our commitment to charity fundraising and community engagement.
In the past we have raised money for specific charities throughout the year including Prostate Cancer UK in 2015 and Alzheimer’s Society in 2017. In 2018 we took a slightly different approach, raising money for several charities which are local to each of our different offices around the country and getting involved with our local communities. We have been litter picking, gardening, hedge strimming and generally helping keep our local villages tidy. We have also coordinated local food bank collections and fundraising through Macmillan Cancer’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ and our Christmas Bake-off, charity breakfasts, half marathons and even an Ultramarathon!
In true DM tradition, we are setting ourselves another big fundraising challenge for 2019 during which we are aiming to raise a whopping £25,000 for our chosen charity, Bloodwise.
Bloodwise was set up as a charity in 1962 (then known as the Leukaemia Research Fund) to fund research into Blood cancer in the UK. It is a charity extremely close to several of our hearts within DM, and something which we feel we can all really get behind.
There are over 100 different types of Blood Cancer affecting people in the UK, and it is the fifth most common type of cancer that affects us. The money raised by Bloodwise funds research into treatment and care for those 240,000 people living with the disease in this country, including the running of over 40 different medical trials. Employees were invited to nominate a charity and a shortlist presented their case before a casting vote determined the chosen charity. Stay tuned to see what we get up to throughout the year, we already have big plans to get everyone involved and smash our fundraising target!
