From a Norfolk farming family, James completed a degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management from Harper Adams University in 2009 and qualified as a chartered surveyor in 2010. Including his placement year, James spent five years working at a national firm of surveyors, with a focus on estate management, agricultural business consultancy and renewable energy advice.
After joining Dalcour Maclaren in 2013, James spent a year in the Bicester office working across a range of client projects. In June 2014 he moved to Norfolk to set up the Thetford office to provide coverage for clients across East Anglia, Lincolnshire and North London.
James advises on large-scale, cross-country linear utility projects for gas, electricity and offshore renewable energy clients; he is experienced in Compulsory Purchase Order [CPO] schemes and Development Consent Order [DCO] projects. He routinely advises clients on land rights strategy, landowner engagement and consultation, site acquisitions, land referencing, statement of reasons, land compensation budgets, funding statements and the CPO or DCO hearing process.
James oversees the company training and development programme, which offers structured support to all employees across all disciplines at every level for their personal and career development. Including professional qualifications, individual coaching and mentoring and specific skills training.
James is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (FAAV), an RICS-approved APC Assessor and a qualified PRINCE 2 Project Management Practitioner.
Away from the office, he can usually be found helping on the family farm, playing / watching rugby or at the coast with his young family.
