In a drive to provide better re-use of buildings and in efforts to revitalise high streets and town centres, the overhaul of the use classes order as of 1st September 2020 has resulted in three key new Use Classes.

This allows for a level of flexibility in changes of use between Use Classes and some extensions to commercial premises, however, the true impact of this will not be seen for some time. The previous Use Classes will remain relevant for certain change of use permitted development rights until 31 July 2021 and there are certain transitional arrangements in force.
