DM secures role on England-Scotland grid connection proposal

15 December 2025

We are proud to announce our appointment by National Grid to provide land and property services for the Cross Border Connection project. This new 400kV electricity link will run between Scotland and north-west England.

The project is a joint scheme between National Grid and SP Energy Networks, which will enable the transfer of renewable power between Scotland to north-west England and is expected to be operational by 2033.

This key link forms part of broader efforts to increase network capacity and resilience in response to rising electricity demand and the increasing generation of renewable energy located away from major population centres. Our team will support public consultations and community engagement, establish direct contact with approximately 2,000 landowners in England, conduct detailed land referencing, and carry out on-the-ground surveying to assist with the project's development stages.

“This project is essential for the UK’s future energy needs, and we’re pleased to be helping National Grid keep the programme moving at pace.”

At DM, we recognise that the Cross Border Connection will require a substantial consenting and planning process, including engagement with landowners and local communities along the route. In addition, developers will also need to address environmental and landscape impacts, protected sites and potential disruption during construction. The planned commissioning date of 2033 assumes that statutory approvals and construction proceed on schedule.
